Lubrication oil production process

Lubricating oil, sometimes simply called lubricant/lube, is a class of oils used to reduce the friction, heat, and wear between mechanical components that are in contact with each other. Lubricating oil is used in motorized vehicles, where it is known specifically as motor oil and transmission fluid. The refinery takes from the crude oil a lot of molecules of various sizes and structures that can be used for different things. For example, gasoline, diesel and kerosene are all derived from crude oil. Lubricating oil relates to hydrocarbon molecules of a particular size (in the range from 26 to 40 carbons). Key Words: Grease, Consistency, Base Oil, Additives, Penetration etc. 1. INTRODUCTION Grease is a semisolid lubricant. It is generally made from petroleum oil thickened with metal soaps, with lithium soap as the most widely used thickening agent. In addition, lubricating greases usually contain some performance additives.

The more volatile fraction is used as fuel. The residue is used for the production of heavy oils and asphalts. The intermediate fractions are used for the production of base oils for the manufacture of lubricant oils. Up to four fractions of base oils can be produced. LUBE OIL MANUFACTURING PROCESS 1. A lubricant is a substance, usually organic, introduced to reduce friction between surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces. The property of reducing friction is known as lubricity. In addition to industrial applications, lubricants are used for many other purposes. Other uses include cooking, bioapplications on humans, ul There has also been an increase in the lubrication oil production sector as it is one business you can readily go into with the hope of making great profit. The various needs of lube oils in homes, organizations, factories and industries just cannot be overemphasized

With lubrication, the production process will run smoothly with the machines being assured of wear protection coupled with subsequent prevention and inconvenience that follows unplanned downtime. With the right lubrication, there are chances of higher reliability of devices during the production with an extended production process.

Concerning the production of base oils, their production process consists of the following steps: Distillation: the process of removing the components at a very low and very high boiling point, Removal of aromatics: It leaves the lubricating oil behind with a high proportion Dewaxing: It

Lubricating oil analysis is primarily a quality control process. It is important to verify the levels of additives and contaminants during the production phase, and

Distillation: the process of removing the components at a very low and very high boiling point, leaving the distillate in the boiling range of the lubricant. Removal of aromatics: It leaves the lubricating oil behind with a high proportion of saturated hydrocarbons, and improves its viscosity index and stability.
